Half Way Home

As a write this entry, I am approaching the half way point as Commodore of this great place! Up to this point, it has been pretty smooth sailing. There have been some challenging times, but there has been far more good than bad. Although your flag and board spends a lot of time at meetings and attending to other issues around here, some of you might think I haven’t been around as much as some who served in the recent past. Rest assured that our club is not very far from mind. Just ask my wife, look at my desk or in my car! I am looking forward to many more rewarding experiences as the year continues.

Long time Jib Sheet editor Cindy Bolte has decided it was time to turn over the reins to someone else. I would like to thank her for her years of serving in this capacity. As of this month, Tammy Almendinger has enthusiastically taken over. I hope she will accept my monthly excuses and delays in submitting my entry in the same spirit that Cindy did! Tammy can be contacted at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

As you know, the club has recently completed the ceiling project in the hallway and kids room. As a result of this, the furniture, games and other fixtures are looking pretty worn. Dave and Cindy Obergefell have agreed to do some research and come back to the board of trustees with a recommendation on updating the space. If you have some suggestions, please email Dave at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Speaking of projects, the planning committee has been very busy reviewing our facilities. As a result of their review, they have asked that board to consider tackling a long time complaint from our boating members: the north shore heads. The board has agreed to move forward and pre- sent it to the membership. We will be discussing this at the general membership meeting on July 7, which starts at 8:00PM. You are encouraged to attend.

Since it has finally warmed up, please keep in mind that bathing suits, tank tops or bare feet are not permitted in the clubhouse.

On a sad note, Past Commodore and long-time member Paul Riehl passed away last month. Our PCYC family has been affected by the passing of a number of very active members over the past several months. Please keep Paul’s family and the families of the others in your thoughts and prayers.

There is much happen- ing around the club. Just this month alone there are 10 social events, four adult learn to sail sessions and the second session of our youth learn to sail program. These events, plus the always well attended PCYC North Coast Jr. Regatta and the Stray Cat Regatta on the fol- lowing weekend offer something for everyone.

Caretaker Eric calls our bar his large living room, stop by and make it your living room too.
