As sad as it is to say, the close of the boating season is coming quickly upon us. This time of year also brings the closing of the pool, the end of our Friday picnics and many of the other activities around the grounds we all enjoy. The October 2011 good news is that football season is here and perch fishing is in full swing!
Centennial Bricks for SAIL!Choose your brick, print the form and bring your order to the club!
Download Brick Order FormDespite the slowdown, a hearty group from our power fleet made their final voyage of the year to Put In Bay a week or so ago. Since this is written before the event took place, I can’t report on the actual details, but knowing this group, I’m sure fun was had by all.
Our sailing season also comes to an end on October 1st and 2nd with the 65th annual Snow Flurries Regatta. Our sailing friends from all over the western basin will be in for the season finale. Please stop by and help this colorful crew enjoy some of those Brandy Alexanders and Hummers expertly prepared by our bar staff.
As I have said for a long time, this place is about fun. Breaking the rules shouldn’t really be part of the fun, but it was necessary in this case. We temporarily suspended our “No Hats in the Bar Rule” to make way for a fun bar party. For those that couldn’t make it, the meal was great and a fun time was had by all. I’m really not much of a dancer, but enjoyed learning a new dance step that evening. Let’s just call it the “Tom Dance”. It’s kind of hard to describe, so next time you see Tom Haslinger, ask him for the details!
October is the month that most of the planning and budgeting takes place for the coming year. Please plan on attending this month’s general membership meeting on October 6th, where the nominating committee will present the slate of officers for 2012.
Last month, club secretary Jim Widmer, sent out the Jib Sheet by email for the first time. His email list is quite extensive, so most of you should have received it. The comments he received were mostly positive. It is likely that this will be the way that our newsletter will be delivered in the near future. Please rest assured that the plan is to continue mailing it to any members that may not have moved into the cyber world.
This month’s fun includes the fall work party, which will take place on the 23rd. Please stop by and lend a helping hand and help RC John Schaffner put this place to bed for the season. In fine PCYC tradition, your participation will be rewarded with a few of your favorite breakfast drinks and a great lunch. See you there.
Commodore,
Geoff Bailey
